What are our criteria for awarding mini-grants?

We like the project.
The arts, greening, learning about birds, and citizen science are part of the event/project.
The event/project will take place in an underserved community.
Data collection for Celebrate Urban Birds project is part of the event!
Events/projects take place in the neighborhood, school, community center, etc… We want participants to learn about the birds/wildlife that exists in their neighborhood. We don’t usually fund field trips.
The project has been well-planned and it’s really going to happen.
Applicants show us how the money requested will be spent. The budget has been broken down and it’s clear that the cost of things/services has been researched.

Celebrate Urban Birds strives to co-create bilingual, inclusive, and equity-based community science projects that serve communities that have been historically underrepresented or excluded from birding, conservation, and citizen science. The project seeks to promote better science through equitable knowledge sharing, increased access, centering missing voices and experiences, and intentionally advocating for community ownership and scientific research leadership. Together with participating communities, the project has co-developed processes to co-design, pilot, and implement scientific research and programming while focusing on race and equity.
