AveZona continues to develop amazing bird conservation programs! They recently done organized a two day two events in the Básica La Mosca school in San Felipe City, Venezuela. The event had amazing presentations about the focal bird species in San Felipe City, thanks to the support of Andrés Pacheco from INPAQUES-YARACUY.
On the first day, students from first to third grade were present. They were told an interesting story by Professor Ligia Gutierrez about the dangers birds face every day. These students then had a great discussion about birds and how they can help keep them safe. The students were excited as they and their teachers fixed their school garden! They added fertilizer to the soil and planted plants that the birds could use for food. They were so happy they created a green space in their school!
On the second day, students from fourth grade to sixth grade were also visited by Professor Ligia Gutierrez. The students then participated in drawing a bird mural for their school. The mural had focal bird species like Crested Oropendola (Psarocolius decumanus), Whistling Heron (Syrigma sibilatrix), American Redstart (Setophaga ruticilla), Great Kiskadee (Pitangus sulphuratus), Glittering-throated Emerald (Amazilia fimbriata), and the Violet-chested Hummingbird (Sternoclyta cyanopectus). This mural was designed and finalized by Josmar Esteban Marquez, Alejandra Romero, and Daniel Serva. The children also did bird origami, colored plastic bird pennants and discussed the focal species displayed on the mural and how to help them.
