My family and I were coming back from a paddle boat ride around the Oak Ridge Marina, when I noticed swallows flying near the dock. On closer inspection, I saw a Northern Rough-winged Swallow carrying grass to add to a nest in the top of an old Yamaha boat motor. I was able to get a photo using my iPhone of the swallow entering the nest hole. You could tell the boat hadn’t been used in quite some time and it was tied to the bank, making it a safe place for the swallows to nest. I will be checking on the pair from time to time to see the progress of their funky nesting attempt.
