The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has decommissioned this data platform

Thanks for visiting this section of our website where participants like you have historically shared their bird observations using the Celebrate Urban Birds observation protocol over the years. We are deeply grateful for your contributions to this participatory science effort to connect more people to birds and nature. As part of our ongoing efforts to improve and modernize our tools, The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has decommissioned this data platform. It is built on software that requires significant updates, and we have made the difficult decision to retire it.

While we are sad to say goodbye to this platform, we are excited to invite you to continue your journey sharing your new observations using the eBird app or website or using the wonderful Merlin Bird ID App.

eBird (ebird.org) is a bird observation tracking tool also hosted at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. There is a free online course to help you get started: eBird Essentials. If you run into any barriers in this process or would like to connect about using eBird, please reach out to us at urbanbirds@cornell.edu. We are here to help!

Access to your past observations

You still have access to the data collected on the CUBs platform here. The download is a spreadsheet file (CSV) that can be opened in Excel, Google Sheets and other similar software.

The data belongs to our participants and is open to the public. We hope you will find it useful to answer questions you may have about birds in your region.

If you run into any questions about the historical dataset please reach out to us at urbanbirds@cornell.edu.

Your connection to birds and nature makes a real difference. We hope you will continue to participate in accessible, inclusive participatory science with us as we work together to protect birds and the biodiversity in the planet we share.

With gratitude,

The Celebrate Urban Birds Team
