    Scholarships Available for Youth Workshop April 2014

    Thanks to Kaytee Avian Foundation we have provided full scholarships for 16 urban youth to attend a two-day “Birds, Careers, and Conservation workshop” at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology on April 24-25. Scholarships cover travel, accommodations, meals, and cost of the workshop. We looked for outstanding teens, 12-18 years old, who are interested in learning more about careers in science and conservation and who would like to have an impact in their community. Scholarships were awarded on the basis of financial need AND academic potential.

    Please see a description of our October 2013 workshop to better understand the activities offered.

    Participants will learn about:
    * careers in the sciences
    * conservation science
    * what youth can do in their neighborhoods to make a difference
    * Cornell University
    * cutting-edge conservation science research at the Lab
    * the value of participatory science and critical thinking
    * paths to higher education
    * the role of the arts in conservation

    Staff from seven departments at the Cornell Lab will share their expertise and time.
